FAQ

a. Wouldn't my insurance cover the full amount I paid for the car?

No, insurance will only cover you up to the market value of your car. Assuming you bought a new car at $120K and drive into Malaysia immediately. If you car is stolen, you will most likely be reimbursed with about $115K . This will translate to an immediate loss of at least $5K.

For those who have obtained bank loans, here is a good example taken from the Sunday Times: Assuming you bought a car at $80K and took a 95% loan at 2.75% flat annual interest rate. Your car got stolen 2 years later. By then, your car market value would have decreased by 30% making it worth about $56K. This is the amount insurance company will pay you back. In other words, you will still need to top-up around $14K cash to pay back the bank. You will also need to pay extra because of the prepayment penalty under the Rule 78 in the hire-purchase deal.

An easy way to determine how much you need to top up (assuming your car is stolen now) is to call a 2nd hand car dealer, tell him that you want to sell your car and what is its current market value. Call the bank and ask for the amount you need to pay them if you want to settle the car loan immediately. Subtract the two figures and you will get the amount you need to top up if your car is indeed stolen.

Remember, you will also need to fill in a lot of paper work and wait at least 3 to 6 months before insurance companies will compensate you. Your future insurance premium will also increase because of your car theft history.

b. Can I prevent my car from being stolen? I have an expensive car alarm, steering wheel lock and immobilizer installed in my car.

No, you can slow down car thieves but you cannot prevent your car from being stolen. All they need is a tow truck to steal your car in minutes. Some will even wait for you to return to your car so that they can car-jack you and steal your car keys by force. They can break your steering wheel lock with a simple device. They can disable your car alarm with the right technique.

c. Is it safe to park in hotel or shopping centre car parks?

When you read more about car theft in Malaysia, you will realize that no where is safe, even in hotel car parks. In some cases, cars are reported missing even from car parks with car attendants. In other words, no where is safe when it comes to public car parks.

d. How does Car Track system work?

We use the latest and most advanced technology for our tracking systems to ensure the best services for our customers. We do not further reveal the details of this technology to safeguard its secrets and for the benefit of our other customers. Similarly, companies like Microsoft will not reveal the details of their operating system in case this information gets into the wrong hands and their software becomes easily target by hackers.

e. Who perform the installation?

We only use our own people (highly trained professionals) to perform the installations because when it comes to the security of your car, you must have the best installation. All installation will be done in-house and in secrecy behind closed doors to ensure that the technology and the device location remain secret. That is why we do not allow 3rd parties accessory shops to perform this installation for us. It is crazy to get a car accessory shop to install these things for you, especially when they have no experience nor dedication at all installing these type of product. It will just compromise the security of your car.

f. What are the areas that your system covers?

Our tracking system covers the whole of Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, even rural areas and hills (e.g. Genting Highland). In most cases, we are also able to track cars that are parked inside buildings and basement carpark. Recently, we managed to track and recovered a stolen Toyota Wish that was hidden inside a car workshop with the shutter closed.

g. I don't travel to Malaysia. Is Singapore safe?

Every year, more than 120 cars are stolen in Singapore! Having your car in Singapore does not mean that it is free from car thieves. As long as you have a car, you are already a target for potential car thieves, be it in Singapore or Malaysia. If you have been following the news closely in 2008, car theft in Singapore have been making headline news in several newspaper.

h. Do you provide tracking service to track my car so that I know where my spouse or children is at? Do you track my car without my knowing?

No, we do not invade into our customers privacy. We will only start tracking when your car is stolen or during an emergency situation like when your car has broken down. Furthermore, your car location is protected by a Passcode known only to you. For any testing, we will get our customer permission first to ensure that their privacy is well protected.

i. If I sell my car, can I transfer the system to my new car?

Yes, you can. An additional charge of S$60 for unit removal from the previous car and S$60 for re-installation into the new car.

k. After one year, can I stop subscribing to your service?

Once you stop paying your subscription fee, your tracking device will be remotely deactivated. To reactivate your device, an activation fee of S$48 will be applicable on top of the annual subscription fee. Your car also need to be brought back to our workshop for 1 to 2 hours to reactivate the device. It cannot be done remotely.

l. Do you guarantee that my car can be tracked and recovered?

No car tracking system in the world will provide their customers with a 100% guarantee but having our system is definitely much better than having an expensive car alarm system, steering wheel lock or immobilizer. At least, you now have the capability of finding your stolen car back.

m. How do I know whether my system is working well?

We are the only company that conducts test every month instead of only twice a year. Imagine if others perform a test on January but for one reason or another, your device broke down in February. You will not know until July when the next test is performed and this put your car at risk for around 5 months!

n. What is the warranty for the unit?

Like most electronic products, our tracking device comes with 1 year guarantee.

o. Do you immobilize the car?

No, we don't. If we immobilize the car, the thieves will get very angry and destroy it by breaking the windows, puncturing all 4 tires, damaging the interior etc. This is a case of destroying what you cannot get and it has happened before many times. It is better to get your car back intact than in bad state that is beyond repair.

In some cases, the car thieves will also run after you for the immobilizer key. If you are in a highway, you have no place to run or hide. On 30th.March,2005, a driver had his thumb chopped off by car thieves because they needed it for the car immobilizer.

Immobilizing the car is also of no use when car thieves resort to using tow trucks, which is the norm nowadays. We also have customers who shared with us their experience with immobilizers (installed by other companies). Seems that sometimes, the immobilizer will suddenly cut off their car engine for no reason at all! This is dangerous especially if one is driving on the highway.

p. Is there any tell tale sign that a car is being fitted with the Car Track system?

No, the tracking technology that we use does not require any external antennas that is visible to people. Our system are well hidden inside the vehicle and installed in very difficult to reach randomly selected locations. Car thieves will have a very hard time to find the device (Note: It usually takes less than minute to find and disable a car alarm)

q. Is your installation safe?

We only tap on the +12V wire to power the tracking device. No other wire in your car will be used. Thus making this installation the safest possible.

r. We noticed that you use a Tracking Centre when others don't. Why?

Imagine yourself being robbed of your car. Car thieves will most likely steal your wallet, mobile phone and other personal belongings also. With a Tracking Centre on 24/7 standby, you can still use a public phone or others mobile phone to call them. Tracking Centre will be able to help coordinate with the local police on recovering your car back, even though you are overseas on a holiday or stranded in a small kampung with no help in sight. In an emergency, do not under estimate the importance of a 24/7 Tracking Centre to help you. Our Tracking Centre have all the right contacts and experience to ensure that your car is recovered in the quickest time possible.
